The Abu Dhabi government turned to us at Tarek Atrissi Design to create the Arabic version of the English wordmark for the Visit Abu Dhabi brand. Our extensive experience in destination branding, as well as our track record in translating Latin logos into Arabic, made us the ideal partner to craft the bilingual version of the logo.

 

Crafting an Arabic version of an existing English logo often involves balancing the design’s aesthetic with the unique characteristics of Arabic script, ensuring both legibility and visual harmony. Additionally, cultural considerations and script proportions must be respected to maintain the logo’s authenticity while adapting it to a different language.

 

The final Arabic logo we crafted for the Visit Abu Dhabi brand carefully mirrors the design characteristics of the English original, preserving its fluid forms and overall personality—yet expressing it in a custom Arabic lettering style unique to the brand. The Arabic wordmark integrates the sculpted serifs naturally, with the pen stroke movement remaining fluid and authentic to writing in Arabic, while maintaining similar typographic details to the English, such as the thin weight at intersections, similar diacritic dots, and matching overall curve treatment.

 

The typographic adaptation maintains the same visual rhythm and proportions, ensuring a strong, cohesive brand identity across both languages. The letterforms of the wordmark became a key element in the visual language of the Visit Abu Dhabi brand, with close-up crops of the Arabic typography becoming the main recipe for composition creation and background design.
